Job Summary

Red Butte Garden is looking for a Assistant Landscape Designer to work with the Landscape Architect in multiple aspects of Red Butte Garden projects, including product and construction research, materials takeoffs, quote requests from vendors, cost estimating, design plans and detailing, graphic presentations, bid documents, and construction observation.

This is a full time benefited position with funding for two years, may be extended depended on continued support.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Assists Landscape Architect and Red Butte Garden personnel as directed in developing and executing planning, design and construction project requirements.
  • 2. Prepares visual simulations and graphic presentations of proposed improvements and construction.
  • 3. Prepares draft and final graphic art documents for production of signs and plaques.
  • 4. Provides research of construction methods, materials and costs.
  • 5. Performs material takeoffs, makes quote requests and prepares labor and material estimates.
  • 6. Assists in organization and maintenance of project files.
  • 7. Integrates data from multiple drawing/graphic formats (pdf, dwg, jpg) to create plans and maps of Garden infrastructure.
  • 8. Develops construction plans and details for contractor estimates and implementation on small landscape projects throughout Red Butte Garden.
  • 9. Assists in review of plans and specifications for construction projects.
  • 10. Assists with construction observation and inspections.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Architectural Drafting or equivalency; one year of previous architectural drafting experience using computer aided design techniques; a working knowledge of building construction and remodeling methods and materials; and excellent written communication skills, oral communication skills and interpersonal skills required. Demonstrated customer service skills to deal effectively with others are also required.

Preferences

Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or related field of study, plus 1-2 years of professional design experience. Demonstrated ability to read blueprints and building diagrams. Demonstrated proficiency and ability to create and modify documents with AutoCAD, Adobe products (including Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign), Word and Excel. GIS experience preferred.

Demonstrated human relation and effective written and verbal communication skills are required.

Job Summary

Red Butte Garden is currently accepting applications for our Private Event Staff. We are seeking professional, energetic individuals to assist in the set-up and take-down of weddings, corporate parties and other private events. This position involves coordination with vendors, event planners and other Red Butte Garden departments while providing top-quality guest services to event attendees and clients.

Responsibilities

Receives, greets and directs visitors attending private events. Ideal applicants should have at least six months experience in customer service or event implementation, strong human relation and communication skills, a commitment to provide excellent customer service and possess basic computer skills.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency required. One year full-time customer service experience or equivalency, demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.

Job Summary

Red Butte Garden is currently accepting applications for our Visitor Services Staff. We are seeking friendly, out going, energetic individuals who are willing to provide top-notch service to our guests and customers at the Red Butte Garden Visitor Center. If you are a “people-person” that would enjoy working with the public on a day to day basis, we would like to meet you. As a representative of the Garden you have the opportunity to make a great first impression with first time visitors while expanding our relationships with our Garden visitors and growing member base.

Responsibilities

  • Collects money and returns change to customers.
  • Counts money collected during shift, balances it with tickets or items sold, and submits to supervisor for review.
  • Provides directions and answers general questions about Garden.
  • Opens and closes facilities at beginning and end of shifts.
  • Cleans work area by sweeping floors, wiping off counters.
  • May assist at special events.
  • May perform clerical tasks such as answering phones, responding to mail, or filing.
  • Within the framework of University policy, the Cashier has the authority to carry out transactions related to the collection of payment for fees, fines, tickets, and purchases, and to give directions and respond to general questions. The Cashier is responsible for handling and safekeeping of cash during the shift. Requests for exceptions to policy are referred to the supervisor.

Qualifications

Six months cashiering experience, basic mathematical skills, and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Word processing and spreadsheet skills may be preferred for certain positions.

Job Summary

Red Butte Garden is looking for an energetic, outgoing individual to help in our Development department. Assists Garden’s major donors in person or over the telephone. Utilizes RBG’s database to process gifts and reports. Provides support during outdoor concerts for the Concert Donor Club members, processes tickets and season packages, and provides general office support. Provides administrative support to the Concert and Corporate Giving Manager.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Prepares emails, written correspondence & social media posts to Concert Donor Club members.
  • 2. Answers telephones, providing assistance to and solving issues for Garden Concert Donor Club Members.
  • 3. Assists in staffing for concerts and special events. Evening shifts required.
  • 4. Interacts directly with members of Concert Donor Club during concerts to assess and meet customer needs.
  • 5. Processes payments in donor database.
  • 6. Reconciles end of day accounting and prepares daily reports for Garden accounting staff.
  • 7. Processes tickets and ticket packages on third party ticketing system.
  • 8. Provides set up for concerts on donor terrace and reserved seats.
  • 9. Provides oversight and direction to concert volunteers on donor terrace.
  • 10. Answers questions about the organization and associated activities.
  • 11. Assists with word processing, data entry and internet searches.

Job Summary

Red Butte Garden is seeking a part-time Education Assistant. Join a great team and gain valuable experience planning and teaching school programs at the Garden. This is a part-time, non-benefitted, seasonal position. Work schedule is 15-20 hours per week, (Monday through Thursday) depending on the season, with occasional Friday, weekend, and evening work required. Position runs through October 2018.

Responsibilities

Job duties include but are not limited to:

Teaching on and off-site school programs to elementary school students

Assisting with daily operations by maintaining supplies, facilities and equipment

Qualifications

This is an entry-level position. Training will be provided. Must demonstrate an interest in learning about child development and guidance; a willingness to take direction from the assigned teacher; willing to obtain a food handlers permit, TB test, Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) background check, first aid training are required. Demonstrated human relation and effective human relations skills are also required.

Preferences

  • Background in education, environmental studies or horticulture
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Must enjoy being outdoors and working with children
  • Previous experience working with children and some knowledge of basic lesson planning

16 - 29 hours per week. Must be able to commit to working 16-29 hrs/week beginning March 1st. Exact schedule will be coordinated with supervisor upon hire. May require a weekend shift and/or occasional evening shift. Season typically runs through mid/late November.

Responsibilities

Exact duties and schedules vary depending upon assigned team.

Outdoor Garden: planting, weeding, mulching, deadheading, pruning, watering, fertilization, pest control, trash removal, sweeping, event support, etc.

Entrance & Natural Area: same as above and including trail maintenance and invasive weed removal, etc.

Irrigation/Lawns/Equipment: lawn mowing, weed-eating, irrigation system repairs, trash removal, sweeping, event support, etc.

Qualifications

A valid Utah vehicle operator’s license required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.

Preferences

Nine months professional work experience preferred, but not required.

People who enjoy gardening, working with plants and/or desire to learn more. Able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and temperature extremes, and understand the physical commitment required for gardening.

Proven written and spoken communication skills, a commitment to provide excellent customer service, and ability to work cooperatively with others.

Must commit to working 16-29 hrs/wk beginning early March.
